Charleston Hurling

The Raleigh Hurlers played brilliantly on Saturday, April 25 at the Charleston Holy City Hurling Tournament.

Despite having only the bare 11 players and having to play three 50-minute games in 3 hours (yes that is 150 minutes of hurling!) due to a harsh fixture schedule, Raleigh beat Charleston B and Atlanta before eventually losing by 5 points in the final to a fine Hampton Roads side. All 11 players and manager John McNeily represented the club superbly. A special mentioned goes to Ann Scheunemann (who played all of the mens games), Larre Reeves (who played his first ever hurling game), Kris Simino (who travelled a 12 hour roundtrip for the tournament!), and the injured trio of Joe Nett, Donogh McCarthy and Colin Keenan who all kept playing despite injuries.

Joe broke his thumb but still managed to grip his hurley to score 3 goals vs Atlanta! Everyone played their part. It is a good start to the season.
