Raleigh
Raleigh GAA held their inaugural trivia night on Wednesday April 16th in aid of cancer survivor Mary Philbin from Winston-Salem. The well-attended fundraiser was ably hosted by witty quizmaster extraordinaire Hugh Ellard. The categories ranging from all things 80s to sports and movies proved popular with the crowd. Several teams led the race at various points, but ultimately it was “3 non-blondes and a blonde…..and another….and another” who won the coveted prize of a voucher to be spent at Tir na nOg. The winning team included this year’s NC Rose of Tralee, Nancy Boyce. Obi Wan Kanobi Zero won best team name with a round of free drinks as the prize.
The results of a stewards inquiry is expected in the coming days on the use of mobile phones and controversial number of participants on the winning team. They’ll be talking about this one for years to come.

Winston-Salem
Last Tuesday April 15th Winston Salem GAA hosted a fundraiser for cancer survivor Mary Philbin at Foothills Brewery on 4th Street in Winston-Salem, NC. The night was a great success and all who attended had a great time. 22 people attended the event and they all gave generously. We had 5 teams of 4 with a couple of substitutes throughout the night as some people had to leave early.
We joined the regular Tuesday night trivia night that Foothills normally has but we were in our own private room. The regular trivia participants of Foothills were just too strong for our 5 teams and we were just short of a few IQs to win 1st and 2nd place prizes. However Tim Cronin – Organizer/MC for the night – did have some spot prizes (5 in total) that people attending the fundraiser could win by entering a raffle. There were no trivia winners, 5 raffle winners BUT I know everyone went home winners (in my eyes anyway) as they were supporting a great cause and I am honoured to call all who attended my friends!
