Home Hurling Tournament

June 30, 2015

Congratulations to the Raleigh hurling team for winning the Thomas Burke Cup on June 20 in Raleigh! After defeating  Richmond comprehensively earlier in the day, the home side defeated Charleston by a single point in a nail biting finale.

A big thank you to the following:

The teams that traveled to us from:

Richmond, for whom many of their players it was their very first game!;

Hampton Roads, who always travel strong with an unmatched passion for the game;

Charleston, for sending a solid squad and giving Raleigh such a fight in the final game…wow what a game!

John McNeily (hurling co-ordinator and vice-chairman) for organizing the event and doing so much to promote hurling in the club.

The Raleigh ladies Camogie team who played in the first ever game of Camogie in the Triangle! Thank you Hampton Roads ladies CnamB CAMOGIE  team for sending so many players and giving our ladies an excellent match.

The Raleigh players who played for the home side, Charleston and Richmond in the searing heat yesterday.

All those that gave up their time to set up the event and help out with food etc (Eric, Eddie, lemonade kids & grounds crew (you know who you
are!) in particular.

Finally to all of the supporters that turned up to show your support, despite the sauna like conditions. After a full day of play in that brutal heat, a January tournament is starting to sound like a winner.
