Raleigh Cú Chulainn GAA Club proudly hosted the Festival of Gaelic Games this past Saturday at Pleasant Park in Apex, welcoming visiting teams from Michael Collins, Red Wolves and Winston-Salem for a full day of Gaelic Football, Ladies Football, Hurling and Camogie.
The tournament showcased the continued growth of Gaelic Games in the Southeast, with competitive matches, excellent sportsmanship and a fantastic community atmosphere throughout the day. Families, supporters, local Irish organizations and volunteers all helped create a memorable occasion both on and off the field.

The club would like to sincerely thank all visiting teams for traveling to Raleigh and contributing to such a positive event. A special thank you also goes to the many volunteers who worked behind the scenes, Pleasant Park staff for hosting the tournament, and Raleigh Beer Garden — especially Wes and Nadine — for providing a wonderful venue for the evening celebrations.
Raleigh’s Men’s Footballers were crowned winners of the Andrew Britton Memorial Cup following an impressive series of performances throughout the tournament.
The Andrew Britton Memorial Cup honors the memory of Andrew Britton, who emigrated to the United States with his family in 1988 and lived in both Grand Rapids, Michigan and Raleigh, North Carolina. A graduate of Leesville Road High School in Raleigh, Andrew served in the United States Army as a combat engineer and completed military service in Korea before later attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
On March 18, 2008, Andrew sadly passed away at the age of 27 due to an undiagnosed heart condition in Durham, North Carolina. The memorial cup continues to celebrate his legacy, connection to the Irish community and lasting ties to Raleigh.
The Festival of Gaelic Games was made possible through the support of Hibernian Hospitality Group, the Global Games Development Fund, Costco and Wegmans.
Raleigh Cú Chulainn looks forward to continuing to grow Gaelic Games and Irish community spirit across the Triangle and Southeast region.
