Player Spotlight – Rivers Andrews

January 3, 2022

I played softball for half my life, but unfortunately was forced to retire from the sport due to a serious injury while I was at UNCW on the varsity team my freshman year. I thought I was done with sports forever, but this past summer I told my best friends Colin and Ian Kavanaugh (who play on the Raleigh GAA men’s teams) that I wanted to get more active, and they introduced me to camogie. Their mom, Laura, plays on the women’s team, and quickly persuaded me to come out. I fell in love with camogie and football right away. I love playing in goal for both codes, but camogie definitely has my heart! I love getting to hit the ball deep on puckouts, and nothing feels better than saving a goal or smacking it back out to my defenders. I’m so thankful for everyone on the Raleigh GAA women’s team and coaching staff for how they’ve pushed me to work hard and coached me to be a better athlete, and I cannot wait to be back on the field this spring!
